Research in Motion Limited (TSX: RIM; NASDAQ: RIMM) has disclosed that it spent US $237 million (all figures in US dollars) on seven acquisitions for the nine month period ended November 26, 2011.
For the three month period ended November 26, 2011 (Q3), RIM spent $107 million on two acquisitions. In November, it acquired 100% of an unnamed company that RIM said whose technology will be incorporated into its proprietary technology. In October, it acquired NewBay Software Ltd. of Dublin, Ireland, a provider of cloud-based services for storing, sharing, accessing and organizing digital content on mobile devices, for reportedly $100 million.
In September 2011, RIM confirmed that it acquired some of the assets of DataViz, the developer of Documents To Go, and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform. RIM made no mention to the acquisition and DataViz is very unlikely the undisclosed company.
During Q2, RIM acquired JayCut AB in July, Scoreloop AG in June and ubitexx GmbH in May for an aggregate purchase price of $103 million.
RIM acquired Canadian companies, Tungle Corporation and tinyHippos Inc., for $27 million in April and March respectively.
