BC Government Commits Additional $12 Million to Geoscience BC

Geoscience BC has received additional $12 million in new funding from BC Government to support mineral and energy geoscience in British Columbia.

Geoscience BC is an industry-led, not-for-profit organization that conducts exploration geoscience in partnership with industry, academia, government, First Nations and communities to fund applied geoscience projects with the objective to attract mineral and oil & gas exploration to British Columbia.

Geoscience BC’s mandate includes the collection, interpretation, and delivery of geoscience data and expertise, to promote investment in resource exploration and development in British Columbia.

Geoscience BC was established and funded by BC Government with $25 million funding. Geoscience BC received an additional $11.7 million in 2008 to support mineral geoscience in Mountain Pine Beetle-affected areas and oil & gas geoscience in frontier areas of the province.

Geoscience BC has two types of projects: Major Projects which are designed and managed by Geoscience BC technical consultants and staff; and Partnership Projects, which request funding from Geoscience BC through its Request for Proposals (RFP) process.

Geoscience BC’s series of QUEST Projects (QUEST, QUEST-West and QUEST-South) provide the exploration industry with new regional geoscience datasets (free to download) to help guide them to the significant mineral potential of central British Columbia.
